Conjuring Alliances with Love and Wonderment

Conjuro: conversaciones sobre arte, espiritualidades y saberes alternativos (2025) commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of the First World Congress of Sorcery, held in Bogotá in 1975. The program took place in Medellín as part of Brujería: espiritualidades no hegemónicas, a two-day public fair that brought together artists, researchers, cultural practitioners, and diverse spiritual communities to explore forms of knowledge and belief beyond dominant religious and intellectual frameworks. 

As its Co-Director, I conceived Conjuro as part of a massive public performance, acknowledging the 1975 congress as a precursor to contemporary conversations around spiritual diversity, epistemic disobedience, decolonial thought, and cultural resistance. Inspired by the transgressions of the Nadaísmo movement and Fernando González's philosophical thought, the program examined how forms of knowledge marginalized by dominant institutions can generate alternative ways of understanding the body, community, history, and the sacred.

Organized in collaboration with Comfama and Corporación Fernando González-Otraparte, the conference and fair welcomed nearly 6,000 attendees over the course of two days and, due to its controversial nature, generated a most welcomed national debate in Colombia through coverage and discussion across multiple media outlets.
